I’m Silvana Dugandžić Penavić — a Croatian-American mother of four and a grandmother, born of Zagreb with roots in Hrvace, near Sinj. The Light Keepers is my first book, written for my mother, Mila rođ. (née) Alebić, and for every grandmother who quietly carried a word her grandchildren are only beginning to hear. I divide my time between Florida, New York, and Croatia, and through SDP Media I create stories and keepsakes that help families carry their light from one generation to the next.

On July 12 I signed my first book in person at the Oxford Exchange Children’s Book Fair in Tampa, Florida — and shared the whole day live on Facebook, so friends could be there from wherever they were. Everyone who came to the table, downloaded it, and shared it carried The Light Keepers all the way to #1 in its category. I keep looking at it and holding my breath.
